Well, that title’s not quite fair. I didn’t make money from Tammy herself, I made money from all the thousands of Singapore (and some international) Internet searchers who were either trying to download a copy of the video or find out more information about it.
The traffic still hasn’t completely died down, I’m still getting some Tammy searchers, but there are a lot less of them than there used to be. Also, I have the ads on posts with all kinds of other topics, so I can no longer say that my advertising revenue is all from people searching for NYP Tammy.
So, the grand total? Right around $105. That’s easily the most money I’ve ever made from a web site, and that includes sites that have been around for years. This was a quick, what, 3 or 4 weeks worth of posting every now and then? Excellent.
Thank you so much Tammy. I’m sure other people made a lot more, but I didn’t want to risk annoying Google by putting Adsense on this site.
The huge majority of that $105 came from Clicksor. I haven’t checked to see if Clicksor’s terms don’t let me reveal statistics and earnings the way Google Adsense doesn’t, so I won’t go into more details. I’ll just say that if I hadn’t used Clicksor, I wouldn’t have made anywhere close to that much money.
Paypopup was the second-highest earner. That’s the company that generates the pop-under ads on these pages. There was a good solid chunk of money from those ads. Unfortunately, popunders served to Singapore viewers don’t pay nearly as well as those served to American viewers (0.35 CPM versus $1.80 CPM). But, still, it did very well.
At the bottom of the back was paid-to-promote, who I used for regular CPM banner ads. They pay up to something like 17 cents CPM for the ads, but that’s only for unique American visitors. Repeat visitors and Singapore visitors are only 1 cent CPM. I did have two of their ads on one page (you can have one kind of each type they offer), so that was an effective 34 cents and 2 cents CPM, respectively, but the profit from them never came close to the other two, especially Clicksor.
And then paid-to-promote had lots of database trouble and downtime during some of the busiest Tammy searching days. There was a good week or two where I couldn’t see any statistics, and decided that the space taken up by the ads when I couldn’t see how well they were doing, and when they weren’t making me that much anyway, wasn’t really worth it. So they aren’t on the site anymore. Well, except for the old host that I switched from 2 or 3 weeks ago. I’m still getting a rediculous amount of Singapore traffic to that site, and it was easier to just leave the ads on there. So that’s bringing in a few cents a day still. (The stats just started working again, so maybe I’ll try re-adding them. But since the traffic has died off so much, it’s only going to be a few cents here and there anyway.)
So, there you go. I would have loved to find a decent CPM banner ad network. Clicksor has CPM banner options at 40 cents CPM, but I’m making more than that with their contextual ads, and you can’t have both on one page. Paypopup didn’t let me into their CPM banner program. 40 cents seems to be the going low rate, but I just never found an ad network to join to get that. It would have been a nice boost in profits, maybe $10 or $15, but again, nothing to rival Clicksor.
I’m a little scared of how much I could have made with Adsense, though. I know lots of other sites that posted about Tammy often had Adsense; anyone want to (anonymously or not) say how much you made?
And if you think I deserve a flaming for making money from this, well, go ahead. Yeah, it feels a little bad to profit from a 17-year-old getting her sex video stolen. But I’m profiting from the horny Singapore guys really, not her. She’s just the vehicle that drives the horny traffic to my site.
Now adult ads, that might have been the way to go. The searchers were all horny to begin with, some ads for adult sites might have boosted the revenue. But then I probably wouldn’t have gotten linked from Wonkette, which had a nice boost on the traffic stats.
Anyway, there you have it. $105 from Tammy. Thanks, Tammy. I’ll buy you a soda if you’re in town. I’m generous, right?
